Job Summary:
The CSC Center Coordinator provides operational and programmatic support to the Vagelos Computational Science Center (CSC).
The CSC facilitates the understanding, exploration, and use of computational science and technology across disciplines. We take an intentionally broad approach to computing and its use and we are dedicated to building technical skills and lowering the barrier of entry into computing across disciplines. We engage students, faculty, and staff in learning about computing in meaningful ways, including thinking critically about the development and application of technology in society.
Our event programming reflects these values and we build on our mission through twice a month open workshops, student fellowship programs, roundtable discussions, publications, and ongoing collaborations with Barnard centers, departments, and outside institutions. One of the primary themes of our collaborations is to explore computational topics through an interdisciplinary lens with a focus on building technical skills, critical thinking, and social justice.
The CSC Center Coordinator provides core support to the center by managing the day-to-day operations, data collection, and communications for our events and programs, including our open workshops, Computing Fellows program, and special events. They coordinate social media campaigns, schedules and calendars, including coordination among center members as well as other organizations, such as co-hosting organizations and guest speakers. They make recommendations and advise others based on knowledge of the Directors’ preferences.. They help coordinate hiring, book, schedule, and organize meetings, keep track of expenses, organize events, support key relationships and generally ensure that our Center has what it needs to advance our mission and serve internal and external stakeholders.
The CSC Center Coordinator actively participates in Center life, helps fellow team members, and collaborates across functions to ensure successful delivery of the Center’s programs. With experience, a successful candidate will grow into a thought partner for the Center Directors’ and, in addition to managing logistics and planning for all the Centers’ programs and projects, will contribute their knowledge and skills to growing the Center and its mission.
This is a full-time, 35-hour/week position, that requires majority (at least 3 days a week) in-office presence on the Barnard campus.
About You:
The Center Coordinator must be innovative, be proactive, and appreciate working in a small setting that is mission-driven and community-oriented. The ideal candidate is comfortable with using technology, open to learning new technical skills, and passionate about the CSC mission to build technical skills and increase awareness around issues relating to technology and society. They demonstrate sound judgment across a range of scenarios, have strong written and verbal communication skills, exhibit excellent administrative and organizational abilities, and are able to maintain a realistic balance among different priorities. They must be able to work independently on projects from start to finish and to operate under pressure at times to handle a wide range of activities and topics. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and not letting things fall through the cracks are key components of success for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide sophisticated logistics around event programming and communications management for the Center. Prioritize inquiries and requests while troubleshooting conflicts; make judgements and recommendations to ensure smooth day-to-day engagements.

Work independently and as part of a team on various projects. Act as a project manager for special projects at the request of the Directors, which may include planning and coordinating multiple meetings, disseminating information, and organizing events.

Spearhead Center communications and branding, and ensure social media presence is exciting, robust, and up-to-date. This includes the CSC website, social media accounts, branded swag, and publicity in the CSC physical and digital spaces as well as physical and digital spaces around the college.

Complete a broad variety of tasks, including but not limited to: composing and coordinating correspondence; preparing information for meetings with staff and outside parties; data collection and management; assisting with completing annual reports and other written materials in a timely manner.

Handle and coordinate routine Center financial and hiring needs on an as-needed basis, including working with HR and the Milstein Coordinator to hire part-time workers, contractors, and student workers, and manage invoicing, purchase orders, and expense reports.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 2-3 years of work experience required

Salary range: $67,000 - $72,000
